Root Beer BBQ Sauce:
1 cup Root Beer
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
3 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1+1/2 Tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed
2 Tablespoons Steen's Cane Syrup
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon lemon peel, grated
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Combine all ingredients in a heavy medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce is reduced to 1+1/2 cups volume, about 20 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper and cool slightly. Transfer to a ceramic bowl, cover and refrigerate.
This barbecue sauce can be made 2 weeks in advance. Keep refrigerated.
